Several Complaints

Where do I begin. Went to one Mariano’s and after one minute of entering the store I observed 10 customers NOT wearing any masks!! Here in Chicago, it is mandatory to wear a mask inside a place of business. So I turned around and left. I was so infuriated after driving there, parking, cleaning a cart with my own wipes because the company doesn’t provide them, only to have to leave because I am not going to risk being exposed from selfish jerks not complying. The following day, I tried again at a different store. This time at the store on S. Ashland and Archer Avenue. One guy was stocking the beer shelf. Don’t know if he was a vendor or just a customer but I think he was a vendor. He too didn’t have a mask on at all and he was yappin away on his mobile, not a care in the world like it was 2019. Then another employee who was wearing the Mariano’s employee clothes, he had a mask under his chin and kept cutting right in front of me without saying pardon me or something. So after the third time of this nonsense, I said to him please put your mask above your chin so it covers your mouth and face. In which he did. Then a minute later he returned and cut in front of me again and without wearing his mask. I told him again to put his mask up over his nose and face. He did but laughed then walked away. Next, after checking out, I noticed on my receipt I was charged the bag taxes of .28 cents and sales taxes along with two other taxes. I used my EBT link card to pay for groceries and you are not to be charged for any takes on regular food items. I went to the service desk and the very rude female greeted me with “What do you want” with such attitude. She wouldn’t refund me and was arguing the fact about sales and bag taxes on regular food items. I finally just walked away. The stores are always filthy, the customer service is deplorable and the food is not fresh. Everytime I go to get something out off the freezer section, either there are no price tags, everything is placed in different places than where it should be and are a mess, the freezers always looked like they are over frosting and chunks of ice are all the packaged foods and the shelves. Packages are all over and not where they are supposed to be. I will not give my business and what very little money I have to Mariano’s, especially when there are other grocery stores.

User's recommendation: Buyer Beware!!

Some of the stores are great, like Norridge and Vernon Hills but the one on Willow and Sanders is the worst. They are always out of everything. Shelves are empty and they carry much less variety than.

A lot of the Shelves are empty. many things are Always out of stock. This store doesn't carry a lot of the products available at other locations. It is impossible to get everything I need without going to other stores.

User's recommendation: Patronize other locations.

Grill

Why is the grill always closed? Open the grill diring regular business hours. Should be able to see if grill is open or closed online. And be able to order food to be cooked and available for pickup

Worst store in Chicago

1. Customer service is a joke and lines are always long 2. Manager is only concern with arguing or ignoring customers 3. Isles are always cluttered with pallets of unopened merchandise 4. Bakery always have flies on or around bake goods in case 5. Always running out of containers for hot bar and/or soup bar 6.Shelf prices vary too much--higher cost at checkout 7. Not a friendly atmosphere at all--they do not like their jobs 8. Very unprofessional staff and management 9. Complaining to management only makes things worst I will be shopping else where and speaking with my community about boycotting this location---3857 S MLK Dr 5

User's recommendation: Do not shop at the Bronzeville location!

Bad prepared meatloaf for $9.99

I purchased a ready-made cooked meatloaf from Mariano's to serve to some visitors. People began spitting out pieces of gristle and cartilage into their napkins immediately on starting to eat the meatloaf. I had to throw all of the meatloaf out. This was not a good end to what would have been a nice meal for this granny. Makes me wonder what mystery items have been put into this meatloaf besidesDo notD

Replacement of name brand products with Kroger Brand

Update by user Jun 12, 2021

I have never heard from them and they are just replacing more and more Name Brands with the Kroger brand. It's too bad.

Original review updated by user May 13, 2021
I am tired of finding my brands being replaced with the Kroger brand. This time it was Bel Gioioso Shaved Parmesan being replaced with Kroger. I DON'T WANT KROGER, I want Bel Gioioso Brand. This is not the first time this has happened, but hopefully it will be the last. This is why when Dominicks was bought by Safeway, both my husband and I were disgusted and stopped shopping there. You saw what that led to.

User's recommendation: None.

The lady at the register asked me for ID before purchasing Marsala cooking wine... Why? Commercial cooking wines are not made for drinking and contain no alcohol, which would evaporate during cooking if the alcohol was present. Table wines, which do contain alcohol,...

No offense, but you couldn't be more wrong if you tried. Marsala is "fortified" (= something is added to give it more alcohol, brandy in this case, originally so that it could survive shipping better).

It typically contains about 20% alcohol, far above the wine average of 12%. *Marsala "cooking wine" contains more alcohol than Night Train or Thunderbird or MD 20/20.* If you don't believe me, read the labels on the bottles. As for "cooking wines," when any alcoholic beverage is cooked, *some* of the alcohol burns off or evaporates. There is usually some alcohol left, unless the dish is simmered for quite a long time.

There are many websites that give guidelines for getting it all out. Mariano's is required by law to "card" anyone buying Marsala, because there is nothing to stop anyone from drinking it. In fact, plenty of people do drink it. In Sicily (where it comes from), it is sipped near the beginning of, or after, dinner like sherry or port (two other fortified wines with very high [c.

20%] alcohol content). People have been drinking it longer than they have cooked with it. Usually, as with any wine, people cook with worse Marsala and drink Marsala from better "brands," but there is no correlation between worse or cheaper wine and less alcohol. tl; dr Marsala is a high alcohol wine (check the label), which people can and do drink.

Cooking wine doesn't eliminate all the alcohol. Mariano's is legally required to get ID when selling Marsala.

Covid vaccine

today I went online and found that there were covid19 vaccines available at your Buffalo Grove, ill location. I was surprised but chose the time slot of 11:30 am. The weather and roads are awful but took the chance. I printed the vaccine Scheduling form and headed out. When I arrived I was informed that there was a glitch in the system and that there were no vaccines in stock. REALLY? who makes an error like that?

User's recommendation: stay away.

Inept store manager

I experienced a problem with an e-gift card at the Des Plains, IL location. the manager, Max, pawned me off on a random employee, who had no idea how to fix the issue and had no solution for the problem (did not even say he would look into it if I came back)! I went to a location in another suburb and the customer service person knew exactly what to do! The Des Plaines store claimed the only Corporate support was between 9-5! How can that be when you have a retail store!

User's recommendation: Avoid the des plaines Mariano's - Arlington heights is not far!

Sanitation issues - Mariano’s 111th Cicero - Oaklawn IL

Visited the location today October 11th. Right before receiving my order of cheese in the deli department one of the workers started sweeping up dust in the area where the meats, etc. was being sliced and given to customers. The manager was near the area and I mentioned it to her. She rolled her eyes upward (yes literally) and stated hes supposed to sweep. I told her dust was flying up on the food products and she just turned and walked away. This happened on another day I visited the store and its clear that management hasnt rectified the issue and its not a priority to Marianos - risking customers health. I have been a Marianos customer for years, unfortunately, I will not patronize Marianoss again.

Disappointed

The food, selection, and customer service has gone from a 10 when they first opened in Oak Lawn to a 2. What happened to the bakery? What happened to the delicious chocolate eclairs they used to have? They have been replaced with disgusting ones. I am headed back to Jewel.

User's recommendation: Don't bother.

The bakery manager is a joke. She comes in every day with a terrible mood and snaps on the people in the Bakery. Whatever happens, the store manager will back her up and takes her side. She stays in the office more than in the bakery, which makes me feel like she is...
