Verified ReviewerPoor Customer Service Experience at Mariano’s Plainfield (Route 59)
On August 25, 2025, around 4:30 p.m., I visited the Plainfield, IL store (Route 59) and had a very poor experience in the Bakery Department.
I waited over 10 minutes without assistance. After asking another employee, I was told no one was available.
I requested a manager and waited another 15 minutes, only to be told the manager was unloading a truck. He never came to speak with me until my husband asked for him, at which point he appeared but told me no one could help with writing on a cake.
In total, I wasted more than 25 minutes with no resolution.
I left and went to Jewel, where I received fast, friendly service and had my cake personalized in minutes.
It was disappointing that customer service was not prioritized and that unloading a truck took precedence over assisting a customer. I hope you will review staffing and communication at this location to ensure this does not happen again.

Verified ReviewerPricing and Customer Service
At 10.20am today, 3/27/25, I went to self checkout for 5 items. It took me over 20 minutes at their checkout machine and I had a very nasty short, blonde older lady that was rude and would not check the sale paper for the sale price.
She insisted on walking to see if for herself and wasted more of my time! She also called the manager because she had the audacity to say, "I DON'T WANT TO DEAL WITH YOU"! Unbelievable. Marianos had the nerve to not put purdues sale price of 3.00 off a bag of purdue chicken and I bought 4 bags, saving me 12.00.
I am INSULTED and feel that they know what they are doing by charging us more!
This is the 5th time in the past month that this same thing has occured!!! Now I am DONE DONE DONE with this store!!!
User's recommendation: Check every item on sale to ensure you get the correct price! I( haven't for the last 5 shops! I am DONE with Marianos! We are lucky to have Trader Joes, Jewel and Petes!!!
Bad behavior
Witnessed (what I believe to be a manager)? yell at a cashier in Vernon Hills. Uncalled for and the associate is the ONLY one who possesses any kind of professionalism there!!

Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with apology. I called the customer service department they apologized for the problem I had and said they would send my complaint to the complaint office and they put 20 dollars on my Marianos card
I will go back but I view then totally different than I did before
Poor, Poor Service
I feel that Mariano's needs to change there entire management departments, these people have no customer service skills and the workers, OM, God! On the phones, ignoring the customers and get angry if you disturb them on their phones. Yes, Mariano's has went down and it is not just one of them it is 39th Pershing/the workers at Evergreen and 31st Ashland falling off as well

Verified ReviewerGenerally good experience, but niggling problem.
No change. Still not enough baskets in store. But multiple employees are aware of customer dissatisfaction.
I shop with a basket, because I carry my groceries home. There are usually almost no baskets. I notice because others like me are also looking at the checkout areas for baskets. Once in a while Mariano's has a large number of baskets, but they soon disappear, and very few baskets are left.
Mariano's says people steal the baskets, but I don't notice anyone leaving with them. If baskets are really being stolen, Mariano's should do something to stop them, or just consider that the cost of more baskets is another of their costs of doing business.
The lack of baskets has led to me not buying at Mariano's at Foster and Sheridan, Chicago. I hope Mariano's reads this and other reviews and does something about this problem that puts a damper on my otherwise pleasant shopping experience.
User's recommendation: Check the checkout areas for baskets.

Subject: Complaint Regarding Service at Mariano’s (Evergreen Park, IL)
Dear Marianos Corporate, I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the service I havent been able to receive at your Evergreen Park, IL location for the past month. As a regular customer, I have always valued the convenience and selection at your store, but my recent experience has been far from satisfactory.
The smoothie machine has been down, and the equipment is not satisfactory for employees to service your customers sufficiently.
Specifically, I experience every morning not being able to get a well-nourished smoothie. This level of service was disappointing to me and all the other countless customers who look forward to the healthy nutrition once provided and it is not in line with the high standards I/We expect from Marianos Brand.
I spoke with the manager, and he seems that it is out of his control so now I feel like I need to let headquarters know that this type of service is unacceptable. I believe that customer service is a cornerstone of any successful business, and it's important for management to address these issues to ensure that customers have a positive experience.
I would appreciate it if you could investigate this matter and let me know what steps you will take to ensure this does not happen again.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Preferred solution: I would them to provide better equipment to service their customers
User's recommendation: Dont go to Evergreen Park expecting a smoothie

Verified ReviewerPoor customer service
After speaking with the store manager, he stated 'his hands are tied' as far as speaking with corp. He has received many complaints, especially with the lack of deli items, rudeness of black employees, and although he has mentioned all of these complaints to corp, they refuse to do anything. I've since moved o
Apparently, a certain element has been insulted. No one owes anyone an apology.
People need to be well groomed at work, and clean! The people who reside in the neighborhood has always been proud, and we do not plan on allowing crime on any level. As a matter of fact, the Police Dept in our nw suburbs DO NOT tolerate, looting, rioting and our D.A.'s PROSECUTE criminals. Some people will feel a lot more comfortable in Chgo where looters are allowed to steal, destroy, burn, riot and behave as uncivilized idiots.
We respect our Police, and they defend the victim! If someone does not respect law & order, hurt law abiding citizens, they need to remember, most people these days have several permits that allow us to defend ourselves, our property and are encouraged to have video camera's to identify the perpetrator. So if a certain element wish to obtain jobs in our suburbs, they must abide by the laws or move out. As for the ignorant employees hired by Mariano's they have been terminated after receiving several complaints.
Sadly, certain types of people have never learned how to Respect others, and Self Respect is not in their vocabulary. The suburbs are not Sanctuary Towns......and white people do not tolerate disrespect, attitude or crime!
The Deli Dept has lost many coveted products ie Mortadella, Vienna Pastrami, Country Ham, Beer Salami etc..tge employees look dirty, gloves rarely changed, rude...prices are over tbe top ie $8.99 for a small box of Cheerios! Hired a few too many Black employees (diversity card) and they are rude, ignorant and look dirty, dress sloppy and call customers 'Home-y' whatever slang they use and little respect...too many blacks infiltrating our white suburbs and yes, Black man looted Mariano's and pulled knife on employee at Crystal Lake store...sad and they wonder why white people take flight ...time to shop elsewhere with more Italian deli variety and less pricey...mostly the need to feel safe and not afraid of a changing neighborhood
- Overpriced and poor customer service
User's recommendation: Beware of your surroundings
There is an employee with a large pitbull in your 3857 S. Martin Luther King Dr. Store in Chicago
how the *** did you get my email? I didnt give you any personal info.
its ridiculous that an employee has a pitbull in the store. And the reply I received was "pets are allowed in Mariano's", Wow! pit-bulls? the reason for my complaint is that about 2 years ago i was attacked by a pit-bull when i was going to a currency exchange.
A lady was outside the exchange door, as I was crossing the parking lot the dog attacked me. I was pushed to the ground and bitten. The owner was a poor old guy whose daughter was holding the dog while he was in the exchange.
Those dogs have no place in a grocery store. If I was attacked in Mariano's I"d've filed suit seeking millions.
Preferred solution: nothing just common sense no bug *** dogs. and why did an employee need to bring his pit-bull dog to work and showcase his love for his dog?
User's recommendation: what damn recommendatiions obviously no big vicious dogs allowed.

I'm sure the cashier is tired of customers balking at showing their I.D. when she is just doing her job, but I agree, her behavior was inappropriate and unacceptable. If she's burned out, she needs to go.
Do you think s minimum wage cashier is making up the fact that she needs a birthdate? Certain cough and cold products require one.
Either ask for a manager for an explanation or give the requested info. Don’t challenge the cashier.
Anyone working at a store should answer questions politely - wage has zero to do with being kind. Don't be mad at customers if you don't like the job, which includes customer service and answering the same questions, whether you think valid or not. Throwing hands up and walking away is unprofessional and childish over a simple question.
